Mocom Thalya vs Thalya Plus: which handpiece maintenance system?
The main difference is the scope of the maintenance cycle. Mocom Thalya focuses on lubrication and purging. Thalya Plus adds cleaning, disinfection and drying. The better choice depends on the part of your practice’s workflow you want to automate, the instruments you use and the equipment package you need.
Choose Thalya when lubrication and purging are the priority
Thalya treats up to four compatible turbines and micromotor handpieces in an approximately 55-second standard cycle. It needs mains power, compressed air, suitable lubricant and the correct instrument adapters. Consider it when your existing cleaning arrangements are already established and you want to review the oiling stage.
Compare Thalya Plus for a wider maintenance process
Thalya Plus treats up to four compatible instruments in a complete cycle lasting approximately 12 minutes. Its sequence includes duct purging, cleaning, disinfection, lubrication, excess-oil purging and drying. Optional instrument-specific adapters are available; the Plus model also supports suitable scaler handpieces. USB cycle reports are available for process records.
Does Thalya Plus sterilise handpieces?
No. These are pre-sterilisation maintenance systems. Complete the necessary manual preparation and all later processing in accordance with the current manufacturer instructions for the instrument and equipment. Do not treat a completed maintenance cycle as evidence that an instrument is sterile.
Compare the package as well as the machine
A useful quotation answers the questions that a model name cannot. Which adapters match your handpieces? Which liquids and lubricant are specified? Are consumables included initially? What are the delivery terms? Is installation or training included, optional or unavailable? What warranty and support arrangements apply to your location?
Mocom’s brochure notes that adapters are supplied separately from the machine. Ask Diamed Engineering to identify the proposed adapters explicitly in your quotation. Instrument and accessory compatibility should be checked for the exact configuration you intend to order.
Which is better for a busy practice?
Start with the bottleneck you are trying to address. A short lubrication cycle and a longer multi-stage treatment cycle serve different purposes. Estimate your instrument demand, identify where staff intervention is needed and compare the complete process. A faster headline cycle is not automatically the better match for every practice.
Buying from Diamed Engineering
Diamed Engineering helps UK dental practices with equipment supply, installation, servicing and repairs. For Thalya and Thalya Plus, our team can discuss your requirements and provide a price on request. Send your preferred model, handpiece details and practice postcode so the quotation can cover the relevant configuration. We will confirm the proposed supply and support scope rather than assume that a standard package fits every surgery.
What should I send with my enquiry?
Include the model you are considering, the number and types of instruments in use, photographs or references for the couplings, your practice postcode and any installation or training requirements. If you are unsure which machine to choose, explain the maintenance task you want to improve.
